Schedule A ConsultationGynecomastia is a condition where men develop excess breast tissue, leading to a more feminine-looking chest. It can occur due to hormonal imbalances, genetics, weight gain, aging process, the use of certain medications, or underlying medical conditions. Gynecomastia is a common condition, and while it is not harmful, it can impact self-esteem and quality of life. Dr. Joseph Cruise, founder of LA Gynecomastia, has helped thousands of men get rid of their gynecomastia and regain their confidence.
Male breast reduction surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to treat gynecomastia by removing excess breast tissue, fat, and sometimes skin. It provides long-lasting results and is the most effective treatment for men dealing with enlarged breasts.
Gynecomastia can vary in severity. Some patients may have a small amount of localized glandular tissue, while others experience more prominent breast tissue, often accompanied by fatty tissue and/or sagging skin. The degree of gynecomastia will influence the surgical approach, which can involve excision of glandular tissue, liposuction, skin tightening, or a combination of all of these techniques.
Before undergoing male breast reduction surgery, Dr. Cruise will conduct a thorough consultation to assess the type of gynecomastia using his Cruise Classification method, along with discussing your personal goals. Based on this evaluation, he will develop a customized surgical plan to achieve the most natural and balanced results.
The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia spending on the severity of the gynecomastia and comfort level of the patient. If excess fat is a significant component of the gynecomastia, liposuction will be used to remove fat and sculpt the chest. In cases where firm glandular tissue is present, an excision technique is used to skillfully remove tissue through a small incision within the margin of the areola. Excess skin may be removed for patients with significant skin laxity, and the chest will be reshaped for a more masculine chest contour.
Most patients can return to work within three to four days for minor cases or and around one week for those with more rigorous jobs. Returning to work will be discussed during your initial visit. Following Dr. Cruise’s post-operative instructions is essential to ensure a smooth recovery.
Patients’ need to take it easy for the first week, avoiding strenuous activities and exercise. Wearing a compression garment is mandatory as it will help reduce swelling and support the chest as it heals. Light physical activities can be resumed after two to three weeks, but full exercise, including weight lifting, should wait until around four to six weeks post-surgery. Scars from the procedure are typically small, and Dr. Cruise takes care to place incisions in easily concealed areas. He uses additional techniques to help scarring heal in the most favorable way possible.
