How Dr. Cruise Creates the Ideal Male Chest

January 18, 2022

Patients with gynecomastia, or “man boobs,” can turn to plastic surgeons like Dr. Cruise to achieve a masculine and flattering chest. This surgery, known as gynecomastia surgery or male breast reduction, is more complex than patients or even less-experienced surgeons may assume. Many factors go into creating the ideal gynecomastia surgery results. As a gynecomastia surgery specialist, Dr. Cruise has years of experience and an in-depth understanding of just how to create the ideal male chest shape. This is in part due to the Cruise Classification System, which Dr. Cruise personally developed to better understand various types of gynecomastia and how to treat each one of them.

More Than Just Breast Tissue Removal

Creating the ideal male chest shape is more than just removing excess breast tissue. During a gynecomastia surgery, Dr. Cruise considers all factors that are contributing to the appearance of “man boobs.” Gynecomastia surgery may require liposuction to reduce excess fat from within the chest and the surrounding areas. This can be done strategically to sculpt the chest area for the desired results. In addition, skin laxity can contribute to the gynecomastia. This is especially true for older patients and those who have experienced significant weight loss or weight fluctuation. For this reason, skin tightening must be considered to create the intended results.

Seeing the Whole Picture Beyond “Man Boobs”

Patients with gynecomastia tend to focus on the chest area alone when they consider their goal results. However, Dr. Cruise examines the surrounding areas as well. In particular, the upper abdominal rib area, breast roll, axilla, pre-axilla, and back should all be considered to create the ideal shape. Often, gynecomastia patients with excessive fat or skin laxity will see a rolled shape that creates the look of “man boobs” and can even extend into the axilla (underarm) area. For this reason, Dr. Cruise takes care to sculpt these areas, using liposuction as necessary. This complements the new appearance of the chest after gynecomastia surgery.

The Cruise Classification System

The Cruise Classification System is an important tool that Dr. Cruise utilizes when it comes to planning gynecomastia surgery and creating the ideal male chest. This system, developed by Dr. Cruise, makes it easier to categorize various types of gynecomastia based on the specific characteristics each patient presents with, allowing Dr. Cruise to plan accordingly for their surgical plan. It also visually demonstrates to the patient the type of gynecomastia they have and what is needed to be done to give them the chest they desire.

For example, type 1 gynecomastia patients, who have a “puffy nipple” appearance, will benefit most from removal of glandular tissue alone, while those with the more severe type 6 gynecomastia have a breast and back roll with sagging skin which requires breast tissue removal, liposuction and skin tightening.
