Gynecomastia in Your 30s

October 24, 2022

Gynecomastia often develops during adolescence, but it is a condition that may develop later on as well. Common reasons it may develop in adulthood include taking certain prescription medications, marijuana, and steroids. There can also be an underlying medical condition such as hormone imbalance.

Men in their 30s should focus on careers, family, travel, etc., but those with gynecomastia often feel self-conscious, and their enlarged chests can get in the way of all of these things.

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of the male breasts due to the overdevelopment of breast tissue. Men with gynecomastia in their 30s may have recently developed their condition or suffered from it since adolescence. Once in their 30s, men may start having children; the desire to hang out with them outside, and the confidence to do so, is often a big motivation to receive gynecomastia surgery.

Men in their 30s will likely have Type 3 or Type 4 gynecomastia, depending on their skin quality. Most men still have fairly good skin, although some may begin to see the early signs of laxity.  Weight fluctuations can lead to worsened skin conditions. resulting in Type 4 gynecomastia which is more severe. The result is the nipple falling down on the chest.

Treatment Options

Type 3 gynecomastia can usually be treated by removing the glandular breast tissue and Dr. Cruise using his advanced skin tightening technique to tighten the chest skin. This may only require a small incision around the areola that will be unnoticeable once it heals. Men with Type 4 gynecomastia will require a little more invasive surgery to ensure optimal results. Keeping the incision around the areola is possible in many instances.

In some cases, more aggressive skin tightening is needed to correct skin laxity and irregularities. An extended incision may be required.

With both Type 3 and Type 4 gynecomastia it is common for all three issues to be addressed: excess breast tissue, fatty tissue, and skin laxity.
