Three Ways to Surgically Treat Gynecomastia

January 8, 2018

Gynecomastia, commonly known as “man boobs”, is a condition in men in which the breast tissue swells or is enlarged. Gynecomastia can be caused by a variety of factors and can be classified into different types. Since there are different types of Gynecomastia, treatment will need to be different for each type in order to properly address the patients concerns.

Liposuction

In patients whose gynecomastia is mainly caused by the presence of fatty tissue, liposuction can be used to remove the stubborn excess fat. In liposuction methods, Dr. Cruise uses a cannula to loosen and suction out fat for a flatter appearance. This liposuction technique only requires several tiny incisions and therefore healing is quite a reasonable timeframe for most patients. Dr. Cruise rarely performs liposuction alone, because most gyne patients have some breast tissue present, which can be removed to ensure optimal results.

Excision

When the enlarged breasts are caused by something more complex than fatty tissue, an excision technique may need to be used to more carefully address the unwanted mass. This may occur if there is excess skin or even a glandular issue causing a larger breast. Also, excision can be used in the event that a nipple or areola needs to be resized or repositioned.

Liposuction & Excision

If you have a combination of the issues addressed above, you may be a candidate for a combination method of both liposuction and excision. This method results in a truly customized treatment that properly addresses your unique situation. With this combination procedure, Dr. Cruise is able to remove skin as well as slim and flatten any fatty tissue areas.  Contact us today for more information on Gynecomastia in Los Angeles.
